12 years after he was ordained as a Polish Catholic priest, Romuald Waszkinel discovered that he was born to Jewish parents. This film follows his amazing journey.

Kinloss Community Kollel

will soon be launching a number of brand new learning initiatives

Professionals Beit Midrash (PBM) is an inspirational and informative Gemara study course, designed for those who wish to improve their ability to learn Gemara independently. Tailored to meet the specific requirements of participants. There will be two sessions: Sundays, 9:45am (Starting 20th January) and  Thursdays, 8:30pm (Starting 24th  January). The Living Judaism Course is a ground-breaking text-based course on the meaning and method of being Jewish today. The course, divided into three semesters, has been created by the United Synagogue’s Living & Learning Department in conjunction with the London School of Jewish Studies. Running weekly, starting Monday 4th February, 8:00 – 9:30pm. Cost per term: £40.  For more information on the course and how to book, please see the flyer.

An Original “Bat Mitzvah” Programme is an innovative course of learning for women in the community who did not celebrate a Bat Mitzvah. Taught by Kinloss Community Educator, Lauren Levin, this course covers key areas of Jewish life, history and learning in a fresh and meaningful way. The course will culminate in an appropriate “Bat Mitzvah” celebration by the participants.  Course dates: 6th Feb, 27th Feb, 13th Mar, 17th Apr, 1st May, 22nd May, 12th June and 3rd July.  8:30 – 10:00pm.  Cost: £30.  For more information and how to book, please see the flyer.

LUNAR is a monthly learning event for Kinloss women. Join Kinloss Community Educator, Lauren Levin, to usher in the new month. Our first LUNAR event will take place on Wednesday 13th Feb (Rosh Chodesh Adar).  8:30pm, at the home of Rebecca Aminoff. In anticipation of the festival of Purim, Lauren will speak on:  The irony of the three cornered hat: Our best selling fairytale re-examined, which will be followed by Rabbi Michael Laitner, who will speak on: Women and the Mitzvot of Purim.  Save the date for the next LUNAR event on Tuesday 12th March, at the home of Judi  Newman.  For full details, please see the flyer. Statement by Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis on his appointment as Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the UK and the Commonwealth

It is with enormous excitement and a deep sense of privilege that I accept the post of Chief Rabbi. I thank the many who are placing their confidence in me and look forward, with God’s help, to leading our community into an era of authentic, inclusive and confident modern Orthodox Judaism.

In assuming this post, I follow in the footsteps of giants. I would like to pay tribute to the current Chief Rabbi, Lord Sacks, who, with his unique gifts, has served British Jewry with distinction. He has been one of the most articulate faith voices in the world. Through his more than two decades of service, he has brought great honour and blessing to the Jewish community. I look forward to continuing to work with him. I was privileged, as well, to know and admire Lord Sacks’ predecessor, Lord Jakobovits, who I followed as Chief Rabbi of Ireland.

Our United Hebrew Congregations have outstanding Rabbis, and I will seek to inspire and empower them further to transform their synagogues into powerhouses of religious, educational, cultural and social activity.

The Jewish community is widely admired, both within the UK and beyond, and I will endeavor to take us to even greater heights through a deeper commitment to Jewish identity, values and learning.

I will seek to bring an ethical voice to the national debate in these changing and challenging times. A sense of religious identity has never been more relevant, nor more necessary in our fast-changing world and these difficult economic times.

My wife, Valerie, is a Local Authority Senior Social Worker and we look forward to   serving as an energetic and dynamic team.

I am indebted to the many teachers and role models who have inspired me, particularly my father and late mother. We share this momentous time with our four sons, Hillel, Danny, Noam and Eitan and their families, and are remembering our late daughter, Liora, with great fondness.

We are thrilled to take on our new role, but will be sad to leave the Finchley community, where we have made many friends over the last 16 years. I now look forward to making the necessary plans to assume office in September 2013, in time for the Jewish New Year.

Please join us for the Yom Hashoah 2013 National Commemoration ceremony , at the National Memorial to the Holocaust, Hyde Park, London at 11am.  The ceremony will last approx. one hour.  Seating under cover in the event of rain will be provided.

There will be transport provided, taking members to the ceremony.  To arrive on time we will leave Kinloss promptly at 10am

Light up a Kid’s Life for Mitzvah Day

This year we will be making get well cards and designing and decorating gift bags to send to all of the children at Camp Simcha. Please donate, as soon as possible, any unwanted NEW books and toys (not cuddly or battery operated) to help fill the bags.

The Kinloss office will be delighted to accept your donations. Office hours are 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Thursday and 9.00am to 1.00pm Friday and Sunday.

Also, on the day, we will be collecting good quality winter coats and unwanted packs of nappies for World Jewish Relief to send to Eastern Europe where there is a desperate shortage.
